The Andorran artist Rosa Mujal Closa has exhibited on a great number of ocasions her home country Andorra, and in Spain and France. Mujal explores the themes of "bonding" and intergenerational relationships, often using the braid and the hairline as symbols.
Her work begins with drawing. In her watercolors she uses collage, transfer and gold leaf details. With her larger pieces, she paints in oil and adds embroidery elements to represent the wounds of Life ... Art as treatment to the pains of Life.
Rosa Mujal shapes and builds her work without hurry or haste, it is poetic, sensitive and delicate, as it reflects her personality which is to a certain extent introvert in a introspective way - with a predominant theme that is of the mother-daughter relation in the different stages of life.
Painting hair, which she often paints upside down, as if hanging, is her obsession - the subject represents the roots as the unalterable anchor of maternal-filial love and affection - and the braid with which she conceptualizes the idea of "bonding”.
No wonder she has as reference, artists like Louise Bourgeois – for Bourgeois’s autobiographical tendency - or Sophie Calle for the sociological aspect of her work.
She also admires Pierrette Bloch for her line work and that of the artist Annette Messager for her speech and the way she exhibits the artwork.
Mujal’s work is certainly figurative so far but she is still trying to find different pictorial vocabularies, so she never ceases to explore and delve into the world of abstraction, a world for which she has great respect.
For the moment, she fully enjoys how she expresses what she feels, and it often fills her with moments of absolute happiness.
