"Maps and Migrations" Joan Josep Blasco.

Maps to end the concept of borders.

Sonia Bermúdez holds an exhibition with a solidarity background at Art al set and Taranmana.

A joint proposal by two galleries in Escaldes-Engordany with Sonia Bermúdez as a link of union and a solidarity cause behind it. Yesterday, the artist inaugurated at both centers, in a multidisciplinary art exhibition in which borders, both physical and mental, play a relevant role in transmitting the need that man has always had to know the world and to go from one place to another pursuing his own goals, and in some cases dreams.(...) (

Art al set and Taranmana reunite the work of Bermúdez, who thought of doing “something different” with the gallery managers, the artist assures; a concept in two facilities in the parish that, in itself, also allows for a kind of journey, like “walking and crossing the river” to connect the two exhibition points.

The idea is to create synergies because “it is difficult to get people to come to the galleries in Andorra.

(...) Part of the profits from the works that are put up for sale are directed to training projects in Lima, developed by the Anglo Peruvian Society in London, to work with people from disadvantaged neighborhoods of the Peruvian capital who are at risk of social exclusion.

In Maps and Migrations she tries to show “the place where humanity lives”, because “artists do not believe in the concept of a country as a state”, since this is “a political concept” artificially created by rulers throughout history.

In the same way that “energies move”, so do people, in a constant evolution, since “before many people had no idea about places”, and now, on the other hand, with the facilities provided by means of transport and prices, “the movement is constant”.

Everyone has their circumstances and when it comes to migrating, some do it out of necessity, and others out of pleasure. “Migration has always existed.

People travel to change their lives, as an experience”, points out Bermúdez, noting that “man always wants to go somewhere else to improve, even if it is poetically. To know what there is in other places”.

The artist believes that “man always wants to go somewhere else to improve” his life.

In the exhibitions you can see multidisciplinary art, textile art mixing materials such as silk, rice paper or cotton, with others such as plastic. In addition to the solidarity aspect, the exhibition also has a sustainable aspect, taking into account that “using plastic, the material that does not reach the sea”.

The same line is followed in both galleries. (...) A common element in the works that can be seen in Escaldes are the maps. These, "in the past were a way of marking a space, but very unreliable even though (...) the work that those who created them did with what they had at the time. Now everything is different and with Google the reliability is 100%. " On the map, however small the country is, you can find Andorra, which for Bermúdez is "the last secret of Europe, the least known place" on the continent.
