Extracts from "The ephemeral and the eternal".

John Gil Gregorio. Deputy commissioner. Member of the International Association of Art Critics.

The work he presents at the Venice Biennale is a triptych that acts like an installation and that formally follows the same postulates that he has been developing lately.

Ruined landscapes, ghostly and spectral scenes, thick atmospheres and charged with a murky fog, rough seas, always with the absence of man that makes them even more abysmal. It is clear that a marked romanticism appropriates the work, in which infinity, the abyss, tragedy, ultimately the ephemeral and the eternal, become the most characteristic features.

His work process is slow, minute and meticulous, and obeys a treatment of charcoal-based veils, grounds and varnishes on the canvas in a complex course that hints at the records of this sum of stocks.  This is how the execution time, the execution sequences become the protagonists of his painting; a black and white painting in which time is measured by flows, rhythms and gestural frameworks.

...The atmospheric and aqueous fragments decontextualized from a totality, the accidental parts that he isolates to incorporate as the main motif of the discourse, become imprecise and veiled scenes, immersed in evanescent and aerial fields that disturb us before we can identify them. Vacant places, silent places through which one has the feeling of contemplating the spiritual matter of reality because only the most immaterial is left: shadows, flashes of light, incorporeal reflections of a past and completely unnoticed moment.
